The folks behind the Altrincham Market and Mackie Mayor foodhalls have bought a pub in Cheshire. They will be taking over The Nag’s Head in Houghton Moss, just outside Tarporley.
They’re joining up with Tender Cow, one of the operators at Altrincham Market, Mackie Mayor and the Picturedrome in Macclesfield on the venture, along with Honest Crust and Little Window, and Picos Tacos.
What’s more, Tender Cow will actually be rearing and butchering its own animals for the menu, in an effort to maintain maximum sustainability. They’ll also be using local suppliers such as Littlewoods Butchers, and the Cinderwood Market Garden in nearby Nantwich.
The Nag’s Head announced its closure on New Year’s Eve in December 2019. The Grade II listed building dates back to 1680, and sits in grounds with a bowling green and country walks all around.

In a post to its Instagram page, Tender Cow said: “It’s rather simple really; focusing on really great British pub food by building on our relationships with current suppliers, rearing our own animals, incorporating whole animal butchery and celebrating our own charcuterie.
“With this we’ll be making a massive step in the direction of everything we all want to be. Sustainable, local & honest.”
The new venture is also calling out for new staff. They added: “The kitchen will be headed up by Alex who’s been running our kitchen in Macclesfield and at the forefront of moving us along as a business.
“Alex is incredibly hard working, talented, creative, humble, modest and an absolute joy to work with. Alex needs a whole host of chefs to join him from his sous chef to
