Manchester City will be hoping to reach a successive Champions League final when they face Real Madrid on Tuesday evening in the competition’s semi-final first leg at the Etihad Stadium.
City reached their first-ever Champions League final last year following a commendable run that saw them beat Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund on the way. They however fell victim to the defensive setup of fellow English side Chelsea in the final and succumbed to a painful 1-0 defeat in Porto, courtesy of a solitary Kai Havertz goal.
This won’t be the first time that the Blues have faced Real Madrid in a Champions League semi-final, with the pair coming up against each other at this stage in 2016 too. After a goalless stalemate in Manchester, City travelled to the Spanish capital knowing a score draw would see them through to a first-ever final. This was not to be though as City lost 1-0 thanks to a deflected Gareth Bale shot in the first half which sent Madrid through to the final which they eventually won.

The most recent time that these sides faced off against each other was in the last 16 round of the 2019/20 Champions League with City coming out on top in both legs 2-1. Thanks to goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus (x2), City were able to dispatch the 13-times Champions League winners with ease.
All three players are still in Pep Guardiola’s team and City fans will be hoping that the attacking trio can once again be the difference on Tuesday night.
Despite sharing the pitch on numerous occasions, City and Madrid have also shared nine players over the years. To coincide with City’s semi-final
