Plans for new neighbourhoods with thousands of homes, a school and a health centre in North Manchester are set to be approved next week. The major development is part of a £4bn project to rejuvenate this part of the city.
Work on the Victoria North scheme, which will see 15,000 homes built over the next two decades, is already under way. Manchester council's planning committee will vote on plans for the Red Bank neighbourhood next week.
As well as this application for up to 3,250 new homes, the committee will also consider plans for three plots on Dantzic Street which are part of the Victoria North project too. In total, 1,550 new homes are planned across seven buildings varying in height between six and 34 storeys on these three plots.

The planning committee will also consider expansion plans for Loreto College in Hulme and a proposal to knock down the former Chorlton leisure centre and build 50 affordable apartments for over-55s. Town hall planners have backed all of these applications – but they have recommended that the committee rejects a proposal to convert two family homes in Burnage into eight flats.
