Drew Barrymore was taking part in an event in New York, when she had to be rushed off stage due to an alleged stalking incident.
The actress turned talk show host was onstage with actress and singer Reneé Rapp on Monday, 21 August, when a man's voice could he heard shouting her name, to which she replied: "Oh my God, yes, hi!" Approaching the stage the man identified himself as Chad Michael Busto before telling Drew: "You know who I am. I need to see you at some point while I’m in New York." In video footage of the event, security personnel can be seen stopping Chad from getting onto the stage, while Reneé puts her arm around Drew and escorts her offstage.
Following the alleged stalker's removal from the event, Reneé and Drew returned to the stage, as Drew told her fellow actress: "Well, I have a new definition of your sexiness, it’s that level of protectiveness.
That went full ‘Bodyguard'". Just a few days after this incident, the New York Post has reported that Chad was arrested outside the actresses's $6 million Long Island farmhouse.
Sources told the outlet that the alleged stalker had been going door-to-door in the neighbourhood in search of the actress and was detained upon arriving at her home. Drew is believed to have been away from home at the time.
The publication has also obtained numerous police reports for an individual of the same name, showing previous arrests for criminal trespass, resisting arrest, indecent exposure, disorderly conduct, theft, harassment - all of which took place across numerous states between 1999 and 2022.
The Daily Beast reports that prior to his obsesses with Drew, Chad had been known to target other female celebrities, most recently the American actress Amber Heard.
