Here's the Mancunian Way for today:
Hello,
It's nice to hear that a swarm of bees have been ‘holidaying’ in Miles Platting. We could all do with a break after all.
They are part of a colony which became separated from its hive in Cheshire and ended up at the Saxon Square development in East Manchester.
Ken Boughey, a contractor from FrameTech and a passionate beekeeper, has stepped in to help them. He says the recent unpredictable weather has resulted in a rise in colonies splitting from their original hives.
Ken had to make sure the bees were moved at least three miles from their original hive to effectively reset their ‘internal GPS’ before they can return to Cheshire. So they’re spending the summer in a specialised tree protection location within the Miles Platting development.
"The bees are essentially on holiday from Cheshire in Miles Platting," he told reporter Adam Maidment. “The gardens of homes in the surrounding areas that have been lovingly nurtured by the homeowners are now a haven for these industrious pollinators."
In today’s newsletter we’re going to be taking a look at some of the most interesting food and drink offerings in our region currently.
Our What’s On writers spent weeks reviewing each and every one of the stalls at the Arndale Food Market and that's what we'll be looking at first off. Although it sounds like a dream assignment, What’s On editor Jenna Campbell tells me the team are all still full after eating their way through dozens of meals. It's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it.

, you know that to wear Birkenstocks is to embrace comfort in a world that tries to use femininity to confine and oppress you. Sandra Bullock knows this lesson well, and chose the classic sandals for a day out. (Maybe including a visit to the gynecologist? I love that line so much.)Her Birks are perhaps an unexpected choice to pair with a billowy floral dress, but it all kind of works in a very farmers market way.

Here Lies Love,” a stage musical created by David Byrne, is to let audiences know that the Broadway Theatre in Times Square is a disco. Or, at least, it has been transformed into a reasonable facsimile of one, with the audience on the floor standing, shifting and swaying, and occasionally even dancing, in an immersive experience the likes of which Broadway has rarely if ever seen.

is always in style. And the triumphant return of the '90s supermodel bob proves just that. Also known as the flipped bob or “flob,” the '90s supermodel bob is the best of all hair worlds: The chop combines the texture and volume of Cindy Crawford’s signature with the length, movement, and low-maintenance of Christy Turlington's beloved bob. So while the look is (obviously) incredibly chic, it's practical too.“The ‘flob’ cut has the line and length of the bob but the top layers much more texture, so it’s lighter on top and easier to flip around,” celebrity hairstylist tells Glamour.
Zack Sharf Digital News Director Josh Hartnett revealed to Playboy magazine in 2015 that he talked with Christopher Nolan about taking on the role of the Caped Crusader in the director’s “Batman Begins,” which launched Warner Bros.’ billion-dollar grossing “Dark Knight” trilogy. How far did those talks go before Nolan settled on Christian Bale instead? In a new interview on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Nolan confirmed talks with Hartnett took place, but his casting never got too serious. “No, it never got that far,” Nolan said when asked if he screen-tested Hartnett for the role of Batman. “I met with Josh and if I recall, he was a young actor whose work I was very interested in,” Nolan added. “I had an initial conversation with him but he had read my brother’s script for ‘The Prestige’ at the time and was more interested in getting involved with that. So it never went further than that.”
