Following the coronavirus outbreak andcancellation of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), which would have taken place June 9-11 in Los Angeles, video game companies — from mid-level to major studios — are dealing with the repercussions. While some are exploring alternative options for game exhibition and to share news, others are launching digital events to celebrate the game industry in this uncertain time.
Overall spending across video game hardware, software and accessories in the U.S. was down 29 percent in February to $755 million when compared year-over-year to 2019, the NPD Group reports.

The popular action-adventure survival horror video game, The Last of Us is all set to be adapted as an HBO series and the project will be helmed by Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin. Neil Druckmann, the creator of the original game, will join Craig in developing the project. They will pen the script and also serve as the executive producers, The Verge reported. The video game, which came out in 2013, is set in the post-apocalyptic United States where a fungal plague nearly destroyed humanity.
