GQ. “I identify as a straight man, but I have been a part of some incredible queer stories,” he said in a story published Wednesday.
The British actor elaborated on his experience starring in LGBTQ+ projects on television.“I felt a sense of uncertainty sometimes about whether I’m taking up someone’s space, and perhaps guilt,” he admitted. “At the same time, I see those characters as not solely their sexuality.”Galitzine also declared that he’s different than the men he portrays on screen.“I am Nick, and I’m not my role,” he said.Galitzine played a gay prince opposite Taylor Zakhar Perez in 2019’s “Red, White & Royal Blue,” and a gay duke in 2023’s “Mary & George,” where Julianne Moore starred as his on-screen mom.
While doing press for the latter role last July, Galitzine explained that there’s “a plethora of reasons” why he agrees to play queer characters.“One, I have so many friends within the community, and I know so many of them didn’t feel like they had these stories growing up,” he told Huffington Post UK. “My gay friends were like wow, to have something cheesy and broad and wholesome is like really, really important, and I think the resonance of that means a lot to me.”Galitzine added, “I think with all of these characters the thing that I find really intriguing as an actor is that underbelly of vulnerability and having to hide oneself.
