With the stress of the holiday season rising as we enter December, sometimes a winter staycation is needed to put our minds at ease.
Luckily, here in Scotland, there is no shortage of stunning and relaxing hotels and holiday lets — from luxurious city apartments to tranquil rural escapes.
As the cost of living crisis continues to impact households across the country, though, many Scots believe they are unable to afford a winter holiday. However, many of these fancy getaways can be booked for bargain prices if you know where to look.
Online travel agency Booking.com has listed the best holiday rentals in Scotland on its website, sorted by customer reviews and the price of a room per night, and the Daily Record has rounded up the top 10.
According to Booking.com, the top Scottish rental you can currently book is the Ben Cruachan Guest House in Edinburgh, with rooms available from £110 per night. Situated near the Edinburgh Playhouse, the guesthouse has an average rating of 9.5 out of 10 based on 1,002 reviews — with visitors calling it "perfect" and "spotless".
Half of the top 10 holiday rentals in Scotland on Booking.com are based in Edinburgh, with Destiny Scotland, Destiny Scotland New Town Apartments, Cheval The Edinburgh Grand, and Eden Locke taking the number two, three, eight, and 10 spots.
Elsewhere, Glasgow takes the number five and seven spots with the Native Glasgow and the Destiny Scotland Apartments at Nelson Mandela Place rentals respectively. Both have average customer scores of 9.0/10, while rooms can be booked from £94 and £103.50 a night at each.
For those after a more peaceful and secluded getaway, the Birchwood Guest Lodge in Balmaha comes in at number six, with an average rating of 9.0/10 based on 1,002
