That would mark one of the best second weekend holds for any film since theaters reopened and the best for any DC film featuring Batman film since “The Dark Knight” in 2008.

Warner Bros.’ The Batman, as expected, is leading the weekend box office in what is expected to be a three-frame No. 1 streak with a very healthy hold of 51% and $66M on its way to $238.5M by Sunday. The Batman is back!

Not only does that put “The Batman” alongside “Spider-Man: No Way Home” as the second film since the pandemic began to open to over $100 million, that also makes it the first Warner Bros. release in over four years to top that mark. The last title from the Burbank studio to do so was “It” was a $123 million opening back in September 2017.

Warner Bros. complete return to the theatrical window, sans HBO Max day-and-date, is proving to be a lucrative feat. Since debuting with previews on Tuesday night, the Matt Reeves directed movie has racked up $21.6M. Between special one showtime only previews, largely Imax, on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively, The Batman rang up $3.7M.
