The 1% Club left its viewers heartbroken after a contestant, Steven Wong, passed away shortly following his appearance on the popular ITV game show. Steven was tragically unable to witness his appearance on the Saturday evening staple, hosted by brilliant comedian Lee Mack.
The cash prize game, which returned to ITV on Saturday, 5 May, featured 100 fresh faces aiming to bag the handsome £100,000 reward. Among the hopefuls, Steven - a jovial 52 year old, excitedly told Lee about his near-miss chance of acting in a significant Hollywood movie as a youngster.
In a light-hearted conversation with Lee, Steven disclosed that he had been second-in-line to act in the world-renowned Harrison Ford hit, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, back in 1981. As he narrated, he admitted learning that he and another child actor had been the casting team's top choices for the film, recalling his unawareness at that time when he was only around the age of 10.
Ultimately, the role went to Ke Huy Quan, an Oscar winner, while Steven followed a different path, working for a utility company, which was revealed during his stint in the game show, reports the Mirror. Lee showed support to their fellow participant saying, "Wow! And you got down to the final two! ", regarding his brief brush of tinsel town prominence, before gently teasing him, "You say you don't like to talk about it, you brought it up on national television." Steve made it as far as the 50% question on the game show, but sadly found himself overshadowed by fellow contestants Daniel and Mitul, leading to his elimination in the later stages.
