A rogue teacher who avoided doing any actual work for 20 years has finally been sacked. Cinzio Paolina De Lio was branded ‘the worst employee in Italy’ by her former secondary school.
The 56-year-old had been hired to teach literature and philosophy 24 years ago - but only showed up to teach her students during four of them.
The Mirror reports that she spent the rest of her time creatively using sick leave, holidays and permits to attend conferences to dodge doing any work.
On the occasions she did turn up, it is reported that her students boycotted her lessons due to her laissez-faire teaching style.
They accused her of texting during their exams, not having a copy of the textbook she should be teaching and borrowing theirs instead while also dishing out grades at random.
But De Lio's charade came crashing down during a seemingly routine school inspection, The Times reported.
During one of her rare appearances at work, inspectors said her lessons were confused and she had improvised before she was finally fired on June 22 this year, according to Italian media.
However, this came after she took her school to court and briefly won her job back - before revelations about her working habits emerged and the court quickly reversed its decision.
The Italian Supreme Court blasted her "permanently and absolutely unsuitable" for the job of a teacher despite her claims to having three degrees.
She was also branded the "worst employee in Italy" by her secondary school near Venice. When journalists approached De Lio for comment she refused as she was at the beach.
Shockingly, De Lio isn't the only employee accused of cutting corners for their job in Italy.

Selome Hailu “The Bear” became an overnight sensation when its first season debuted in 2022 because of its visceral honesty about how it looks and feels to work in a restaurant. Much of the credit for that belongs to Courtney Storer. Storer, sister of series creator Chris Storer, has worked in high-profile kitchens from Verjus in Paris to Jon & Vinny’s in L.A., but her most recent job has been to serve as “The Bear’s” culinary producer, getting the writers, cast and crew acclimated to the world the series takes place in. “In Season 1, it was it was a lot of storytelling with the writers, but also providing my journals and different training guides to give insight into the ethos of restaurants,” Storer says. “It’s bigger than the conflicts: It’s the decision-making, the structure, the procedures, the recipes.”

Adam B. Vary Senior Entertainment Writer SPOILER ALERT: This story discusses major plot developments, including the ending, of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” currently playing in theaters. When director James Mangold started writing “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” with screenwriters Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, he didn’t know how the movie was going to end. Mangold inherited the film from director Steven Spielberg, who had been developing the project for three years with screenwriter David Koepp. When Mangold took over, he and the Butterworth started effectively from scratch, crafting a story in which Harrison Ford’s titular archeologist and Nazi puncher contends with his own age and irrelevance while chasing after the Antikythera, a mysterious device with the power to find fissures in time, created by the ancient Greek mathematician and inventor Archimedes.

John Bleasdale Guest Contributor Of all the local premieres of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” none has had quite so dramatic and apt a setting as the ancient open air Greek Theater in Taormina, Italy, where the fifth instalment of the franchise screened at the 69th Taormina Film Festival Sunday night. Fireworks lit up the night sky to the sound of John Williams’ “Indy’s March,” and the film’s title was projected on crumbling walls that date back to the third century BCE.
