Kirsteen Davies has experienced taking part in the Kiltwalk, having recently completed the 14.3 mile Glasgow event in memory of her husband, Alasdair.
Marking 10 years since he died of pancreatic cancer, Kirsteen has fundraised over the years for Marie Curie, which provided much needed care and support to the couple in Alasdair’s final weeks.
Its nurses provide help to people living with terminal illness and want to be cared for in their own home, as well as supporting their family.
Kirsteen, from Dumfries & Galloway, said: “It has been a decade since Alastair died and I decided I really wanted to raise much needed funds for Marie Curie.
“We were so incredibly fortunate during Alastair’s illness to have Marie Curie Nurses care for him at home. All through his illness they were on-call overnight and if the pain wasn’t in control we could call on them and they would come out from Dumfries and adjust his medication.
"Some nights we also had a nurse with us overnight. It is impossible to explain how much those incredible nurses meant to us on that hard journey. Sadly, so many of us are touched by cancer and other terminal illnesses, and it’s only fair that other families get to receive the same care and support we got.
“Over the years I’ve done various things, along with shaving all my hair off a couple of months ago. Alastair didn’t have chemo and so didn’t lose his hair, but he did have his head shaved twice for charity so it’s another way for me to remember him.”
Talking on the Glasgow Kiltwalk, Kirsteen was joined by her two friends.
The retired school teacher, said: “The Kiltwalk was amazing! There were about 13,500 walkers raising money for 856 charities, which is just incredible. The walk was beautiful. We started at
