EXCLUSIVE: Viaplay is to document the troubled story of pop group Ace of Base, one of Sweden’s most successful pop bands of all time.
All That She Wants: The Unbelievable Story of Ace of Base will air as a three-part documentary series on the Nordic streamer next year, featuring previously unseen personal footage shot during the group’s most tumultuous years.
Ace of Base is Sweden’s third most popular musical export of all time behind ABBA and Roxette but behind closed doors things were tough, with group member Ulf Ekberg facing death threats from right-wing extremists, performing in a bulletproof vest and hiring bodyguards during world tours, while Jenny Berggren suffered a traumatic attack by a German fan in her home. The band achieved global fame with huge hits like ‘All That She Wants’ and ‘The Sign,’ while 1993 album ‘Happy Nation’ is still the most successful Swedish debut in history, kickstarting the worldwide Swedish pop phenomenon.
“Documentaries about artists and groups can be quite polished and selective,” said Ekberg. “This series, however, is honest and deals both with successes and challenges. By showing previously unpublished material from the 90s, viewers will have a chance to experience our story in a new way.”
The series is one of the first to be announced since Viaplay dramatically shifted originals strategy following the sudden resignation of its CEO. The outfit was previously greenlighting one scripted TV series or movie per week but has pivoted to “local and relevant” unscripted and acquired content in the wake of the economic downturn.

Kate Middleton and Prince William have arrived at the Royal Variety Performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London, as the couple put on a loving display in the wake of the continuing race row following the release of Omid Scobie's Endgame book. The Prince and Princess of Wales were also joined by The Crown Princess of Sweden and Prince Daniel for the special charity event.
The Prince and Princess of Wales have been pictured on royal duties with the Swedish prince and princess for the first time since the publication of Omid Scobie's book Endgame. Journalist Omid's tell-all book, which includes explosive claims about the Royal Family, was pulled from shelves in the Netherlands this week when it was reported the Dutch version included names of two senior royals said to have made comments about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son Archie's skin tone before he was born.
Kate Middleton has been spotted in public for the first time since being labelled as a 'cold' and 'lazy part time' royal in Omid Scobie's explosive new book that has sparked controversy.

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic You won’t even have to already love Wilco to find joy in the experience of reading Jeff Tweedy’s new book, “World Within a Song: Music That Changed My Life and Life That Changed My Music” — although nothing about coming in as a fan will exactly hurt. His tales about how dozens of pieces of (mostly) pop and rock music have hit him in a personal way over the decades is full of anecdotal pleasures that get at more universal truths about how we’re shaped by art… or, alternately, just illustrate a funny story Tweedy neglected to include in his previous books, the music memoir “Let’s Go (So We Can Get Back)” and the instructional “How to Write One Song.” The book includes his thoughts on youthful favorites he remains unabashed about into his adulthood, like “Smoke on the Water,” “Takin’ Care of Business” and “My Sharona,” adult fare that rewarded more mature readings, like Randy Newman’s “In Germany Before the War,” and songs as disparate as the Replacements’ “God Damn Job,” Wings’ “Mull of Kintyre,” Rosalia’s “Bizcochito” and “You Are My Sunshine.” Variety caught up with Tweedy on the road between stops on Wilco’s fall tour supporting the band’s recent “Cousin” album, following a solo tour in the summer of 2023.
