Susanna Reid hit back at Dr Hilary Jones' "harsh" comments on Wednesday's Good Morning Britain as they had a debate about the delays facing the ambulance service. During the latest instalment, Susanna, 51, Dr Hilary, 69, and Ed Balls discussed new Prime Minister Liz Truss' pledge to make the NHS an "early priority" so people can get doctor's appointments or services they need.The trio then discussed the current delays facing the ambulance service as Susanna admitted she was "worried" about calling an ambulance after someone she was with had a fall and was told it could take up to five hours.
To which Dr Hilary replied: "I have to say, we only hear about the worst stories, the bad stories, and many people are getting a wonderful service by our brilliant paramedics", to which Susanna agreed. After reading out some viewers' experiences, Susanna said: "You'd call 999 and someone would come, now you can't be confident that is going to happen." With Dr Hilary replying: "And at the same time, there are people abusing the service.
People who have got cars outside their house and could take that patient to hospital themselves but call an ambulance because it's more convenient." To which Susanna hit back: "That's not an abuse of the service, Dr Hilary" as he insisted: "Well, that is an abuse of the service..." Susanna then shot back with: "Well, hang on a moment, if you're calling an ambulance that's because you want a paramedic team who are going to treat a patient in your home. "You might be afraid of moving that person, you might be afraid when you take that person into hospital you haven't had all the medication you would need on the journey, to call it an abuse, is harsh!"
