Stray Kids Lands Third No. 1 Album With Hefty CD Sales, Luke Combs’ ‘Fast Car’ Cover Enters Top Five

The Hot 100 chart is seeing a country music comeback.For the first time in 42 years, country music stars simultaneously hold the top two spots on the coveted music list. Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” remains atop the chart, with Luke Combs’ “Fast Car” coming in a close second. The last time country musicians were on top of the all-genre chart was in 1981.

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic In case anyone is tempted to think of country music as a one-man phenomenon at present with Morgan Wallen’s seemingly indomitable runs atop multiple charts, Luke Combs has come along to remind everyone that this town is big enough for the both of ’em. They’re now forming a two-man roadblock at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, as, between them, country owns the top two spots on that all-genre charts for the first time in 42 years. Wallen’s smash “Last Night” remains on top of the Hot 100 — no news there, since this is the song’s 14th week at No. 1. But it is a fresh development to have Combs’ cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” cruising close up behind it, moving up one spot to No. 2. It’s the first time the genre has claimed Nos. 1-2 on Billboard’s primary chart since March 1981, when Eddie Rabbitt’s “I Love a Rainy Night” and Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5” managed the same crossover-success feat.

Maisie Peters is casting a spell over the Official Albums Chart this week, with The Good Witch on track to become her first Number 1.

K-pop boyband Stray Kids have released the music video for ‘Topline’, from their latest album ‘5-Star’.In the new music video, Stray Kids and featured artist Tiger JK perform the high-octane song in a warehouse atop shopping containers, as money falls from the sky.“On the top line, we swing to the beat show / Ha, hotline, hot, hot, we about to blow, top line / We can see the world under our feet, we’re the top line / Your neck must be stiff from only looking up,” they rap.‘5-Star’ includes a total of 12 songs, including the single ’S-Class’. The record also features their August 2022 track ‘Mixtape: Time Out’, as well as a Korean version of their Japanese single ‘The Sound’, plus ‘Get Lit’ and ‘DLC’.‘5-Star’ is Stray Kids’ first domestic release in over seven months, following their mini-album ‘Maxident’ in October 2022, as well as their first studio album since 2021’s ‘NOEASY’.The record has since become Stray Kids’ third consecutive Billboard 200 Number One, following their two 2022 releases, ‘Maxident’ and ‘Oddinary’.In other K-pop news, Tomorrow X Together (TXT) are set to collaborate with the Jonas Brothers on a brand-new single called ‘Do It Like That’.

Foo Fighters have claimed their sixth number one album today with ‘But Here We Are’.Midweek, Foo Fighters surpassed Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds in the race for the number one spot on the Official Album Charts.Both released their latest full-length albums last Friday (June 2) and the competition was one of the closest chart battles in recent years. Sam Fender has announced special celebratory Newcastle editions of his next album by sharing QR codes across the city.The announcement comes ahead of the singer-songwriter’s long-awaited live shows, which will see over 100,000 fans flock to Newcastle’s St James’ Park stadium this weekend.The first show of the two-night residency will take place tonight (June 9), and will see the Geordie artist and his band perform the biggest gig of his career so far. Support acts for the show include Hector Gannet, Holly Humberstone and Inhaler.The latter of the two shows will be held at the same venue tomorrow (June 10), and will feature support from Holly Humberstone, Wunderhorse and Ernie.
