‘Squid Game’ takes home historic wins at the Emmy Awards 2022

ABC and Vice led the news portion of the 43rd annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards, which were handed out tonight at the Palladium Times Square in Manhattan. Both scored eight statuettes, followed by CNN and The New York Times with five each and CBS and NBC with three apiece. See the full list of winners here.

Squid Game has suggested that Leonardo DiCaprio could be a part of the series one day, after the Inception star revealed he’s a huge fan of the show. Following the premiere of the South Korean drama last year, it went on to receive numerous recognitions, including 14 nominations at the recent Emmy Awards.

Rebecca Souw Leonardo DiCaprio could be invited to join the cast of Netflix’s Emmy winning global smash hit “Squid Game” in a future season, series writer-director Hwang Dong-hyuk has said. At a Netflix-hosted congratulatory press conference in Seoul on Friday, when asked if any known Hollywood actor would star in “Squid Game” Season 2, Hwang said: “There will be no known Hollywood actor in Season 2. That’s not in the plan and if the stage changes, maybe in Season 3 – but for Season 2, it is still set in Korea. Leonardo DiCaprio did say he’s a big fan of ‘Squid Game,’ so maybe if time or chances allow, we can ask him to join the games.”

Zendaya set the tone for last night's Emmy Awards. Not only did she make history as the youngest-ever recipient of not one but two awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, but her ball gown, a swooshing and strapless number from Valentino, lent towards Old Hollywood. According to her stylist and image architect, Law Roach, the dress was based on an archival gown from the late 1980s - yet another example of something old taking today's red carpet by storm.

There were tears and surprises at last night's Emmy Awards on Monday as Julia Garner triumphed for playing the role of Ruth in Netflix’s Ozark. It was Julia's third Emmy having won the accolade in 2019 and again in 2020.The star fought of other nominees to win the award including Patricia Arquette who was nominated for her role in Severance.

Succession, Ted Lasso and The White Lotus were the victors in their respective drama, comedy and limited categories at this year’s Emmy Awards. In total, the trio bagged 12 awards at Monday’s ceremony, including the big prize in their respective fields.

Jesse Armstrong said it had been a “big week for successions” as his hit HBO drama scooped a top prize at the 74th Emmy Awards. In his acceptance speech for the final award of the night, the British writer suggested there had been “a bit more voting involved” in the show’s win than with the ascension of the new King.

Succession won the top award of the night at the Emmys and the show’s creator Jesse Armstrong took the moment to throw shade at King Charles III.
