Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” has web-slinged its way online. In the animated sequel, Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) and Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) work to save every Spider-Man, Spider-Woman and Spider-Person in the multiverse. Together with a new crew, Miles must stop a mysterious new villain, who happens to be planning a disaster that could disrupt each universe. In the trailer, he is told, “Being a Spider-Man is a sacrifice.” Alongside Moore and Steinfeld, the cast includes Oscar Isaac as Spider-Man 2099, Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker from the first movie, Issa Rae as Spider-Woman, Daniel Kaluuya as Spider-Punk, Jason Schwartzman as the Spot, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Vélez, Greta Lee, Rachel Dratch, Jorma Taccone and Shea Whigham.
Co-directed by Joaquim Dos Santos (“Avatar: The Last Airbender”), Kemp Powers (“Soul”) and Justin K. Thompson (“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”), the sequel was co-written by “Into the Spider-Verse” screenwriters, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, alongside Marvel veteran Dave Callaham (“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”). Lord and Miller serve as producers, alongside Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, Christina Steinberg with co-producer Alonzo Ruvalcaba and executive producers Brian Michael Bendis, Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, Rodney Rothman and Aditya Sood. The film’s original theatrical release was pushed back from April 2022 to June 2, 2023. The “Spider-Verse: Into the Spider-Verse” sequel will be delivered in two parts: Part 1 is “Across the Spider-Verse,” released on June 2, followed by Part 2, “Beyond the Spider-Verse,” which will premiere on March 29, 2024. Many of Sony’s Marvel movies, including six “Spider-Man” films and the 2018 film “Venom,” will find a new home on Disney+. The films will web sling their way onto the streamer over the next month, finally letting fans watch their friendly neighborhood Spider-Man alongside the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tobey Maguire’s trilogy of “Spider-Man,” “Spider-Man 2” and “Spider-Man 3” and Andrew Garfield’s “The Amazing Spider-Man” will arrive on Disney+ on April 21, while Tom Holland’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and Tom Hardy’s “Venom” will debut on May 12. The films’ streaming shuffle has been expected since the massive deal between Sony and Disney in 2021, which kicked into gear the move to bring Sony’s “Spider-Man” films and other Marvel properties to Disney+. As part of the licensing pact, it was agreed that Sony titles would run across Disney’s array of streaming and linear platforms, including Disney+ but also Hulu, FX Networks, ABC, Disney Channels and Freeform.

The online ticketing service surveyed more than 6,000 ticket buyers, with 86% saying that they plan to see more movies on the big screen this summer compared to last year. Of those moviegoers, 81% said they plan to see three or more movies in theaters. “With a blockbuster slate of summer movies, fans are eager to see their favorite characters and franchises return to the big screen, as well as new original films, in the unmatched setting of a movie theater, with engaged fans, their favorite concessions and the best sound and visuals available,” said Jerramy Hainline, SVP, Fandango Ticketing. “Our moviegoing study shows that fans are committed to the theatrical experience, and we look forward to working with our exhibition partners this summer to help consumers find a wide variety of movies at their favorite local theaters.”
