Spanish Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez on Thursday announced a $2.9 billion package in new subsidies to help people weather high gas and electricity prices exacerbated by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The measures include set gas price rates for collective residential heating systems until the end of 2023 and more electricity and heating subsidies for low income households.
Announcing the measures in parliament, Sánchez said they would benefit 40% of households. Sánchez said the Spanish government can't totally avoid the war or its economic consequences, "but we can cushion to the best of our ability the economic impact of (Russian President Vladimir) Putin’s war on the social majority of the country and the most vulnerable groups." Peter Shapiro I’ve known the name Ron Delsener for as long as I can remember. Growing up in New York, I listened to a lot of radio — especially Q104.3 — and you’d hear ads for concerts at Madison Square Garden and Giants Stadium (pre-MetLife) brought to you by “Ron Delsener Presents.” Then you’d see his name on the ticket stub. As I was graduating college, and thinking about a career in music, he was a god in my world. Now 86 years old, Ron announced his retirement last week. He marked the occasion backstage at a show, of course. I got to witness Jeff Beck’s enormous smile as Ronnie came down steps of the Capitol Theater and turned the corner. A few nights later, I saw Ron at the Beacon Theatre for the B-52s. That pace he has, that endurance and passion, I don’t think that’ll ever end.

About a month ago, Charlamagne the God was publically dragged for questioning Chief Keef‘s influence, absurdly claiming that the Chicago rapper didn’t “change the world.” Those defending Keef’s impossible-to-overstate legacy defended it on Twitter, and even exposed some new wrinkles: Lil Gnar, an artist signed to Keef’s label 43B, tweeted at the time: “im in spain rn n da biggest rappers here told me dey learned english jus to understand what chief keef says.” That’s pretty incredible! If I sound reflective, it’s because this week saw the ninth anniversary of Almighty So, a mixtape from Chief Keef that’s become a significant chapter in his career. So it’s no small thing that his next full-length project is being billed as a sequel.
