Victor Lindelof communicated the Sweden team's desire for their game against Belgium to be abandoned to UEFA on Monday night following a terrorist attack in Brussels which saw two people shot dead.
The killings happened before the game and the victims were reported to be Sweden fans, wearing their nation's football shirts.
The gunman was still at large when the Euro 2024 qualifier kicked off, but fans and players were ordered to stay in the stadium for their safety and eventually, the decision was made to abandon the contest mid-game.

The stadium was evacuated and Sweden's team were escorted to the airport by police, with their fans also accompanied by police into the city. The gunman was shot dead by police on Tuesday.
Lindelof captained Sweden on the night of the attack and he spoke after the game to react to a tragic few hours in Brussels.
“I talked to the other players in the team about how they felt, and then I felt that I wanted to talk to the Belgian players," he said. “I explained how we looked at the situation. We were very clear that we did not want to continue playing and the Belgian players were completely on board with that. There are players who have family and friends there, and we wanted to take care of our supporters.
“Those who had family or friends here wanted to try to get in touch with those people directly so that they were well. People got worried but our security team explained it very well. We are safe here.”
