Shane Warne’s family have had ‘crisis talks’ with an Australian TV channel after they slammed a telemovie planned just six months after the cricketing legend’s death, it’s been reported. Channel Nine reportedly began working on a two-part film based on the popular sportsman just weeks after his sudden death at the age of 52 in Thailand. Titled Warnie, the drama has come under fire from Warne’s daughter Brooke, 25, who called it ‘disrespectful’ on Instagram earlier this week.
She wrote: ‘Do any of you have any respect for Dad? Or his family? Who did so much for Channel Nine and now you want to dramatise his life and our families (sic) life 6 months after he passed away? You are beyond disrespectful. ’Warne’s former manager James Erksine has also previously criticised the programme, telling the Herald Sun newspaper in June the producers should be ‘ashamed of themselves’ for launching the project so soon after Warne’s death. Following the family’s concerns, Erksine met with Channel Nine bosses, including its director of television Michael Healy, to hold ‘crisis talks’ on behalf of Warne’s family on Friday, according to The Herald Sun.
Erksine told the Melbourne paper: ‘They both guaranteed me that this was going to be a celebration of Shane Warne. I trust them, I trust Healy. ’He continued: ‘Now we know Shane was a colourful character, you can’t get away from that.
You can’t sanitise it and suddenly say he is a clergyman. ‘But they have assured me it will be done appropriately. At the end of the day if they do a hatchet job, then the whole world will be watching.
