UPDATE: The Senate is poised to vote on the debt ceiling bill after leaders reached an agreement for a speedier process to ensure that the legislation gets to Joe Biden’s desk before a Monday deadline and prevent a default of the U.S. economy.
Multiple news outlets reported that the agreement will allow opponents and other critics of the bill to introduce a series of amendments, all of which are not likely to pass. The votes are scheduled to begin this evening.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said that the agreement will allow the Senate to pass the legislation tonight.
“Let’s keep this process moving quickly,” he said, adding that “by passing this bill, we can avoid default tonight.”

Gene Maddaus Senior Media Writer The California Legislature this week agreed to a significant change in the state’s film and TV tax credit, and one company in particular appears poised to benefit: Netflix. The state issues $330 million in tax credits every year to keep production jobs in California. The credits can be used to offset corporate income tax and sales tax. But some companies either have no California tax liability, or not enough to make full use of the credits. Gov. Gavin Newsom agreed this year to help those companies out by making the credit “refundable,” so that those companies can get cash back. The Legislature released details of a budget deal on Monday, which indicated that it had approved Newsom’s refundability proposal.

a Washington Post column from David Ignatius, in which Ignatius argues that Biden “delivered” this week on his inauguration promise that “My whole soul is in this, bringing America together.” But, for Joe Scarborough, Biden “not only delivered this week, he’s been delivering for quite some time.”“You look at how he once again, once again, defied expectations, not only from the haters, but his own party, and it’s a pretty remarkable record,” Scarborough said. “You look at the bipartisan legislation and anybody who would mock that, Willie, please, show me a president in the last 25 years, the last quarter century, that’s had more bipartisan legislation than Joe Biden.”Scarborough also compared Biden to singer Neil Young, recounting a story of a concert Scarborough went to a few years ago, during which Young responded to fans calling out song requests by saying “You know, I’ve done this before.” Scarborough noted that that memory now reminds him of Biden, because “there’s no substitute for experience,” to which Willie Geist largely agreed.“He’s been there before he’s experienced.

bipartisan agreement on a new debt ceiling bill this week, but Republicans apparently aren’t too pleased with it – something the “Morning Joe” hosts called out as “hypocrisy squared” on Wednesday morning. The new bill, which is set to face a vote on Wednesday, needs to pass the Democrat-controlled Senate before the June 5 deadline set by the Treasury Department, or the country risks default. On Tuesday though, the Freedom Caucus minced no words about their feelings on the bill, saying “we will do everything in our power to stop it and end it now.”In discussing that opposition on Wednesday morning, host Joe Scarborough was just kind of flabbergasted, considering how Republicans handled the debt crisis while Trump was in office.
