A former Wren among the first people to receive 100th birthday cards from the new King has told of her joy at the delivery from the third monarch in her life.
Glaswegian Ruth Park-Pearson told how George VI was on the throne when she joined up during WW2. She said: “I served under him and the Queen and now it’s going to be King Charles, three monarchs shall we say, in my life.
“You don’t think about it at the time, it’s not until later you realise just sort of how old you are suddenly. You think, my goodness me – I remember the old King.”
Queen Elizabeth II sent birthday cards to every centenarian and now King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla are carrying on the tradition with the cards which have a gold tassel and a picture of the couple.
Ruth, who now lives in Tadcaster, Yorkshire, added: “It really is a lovely card. I shall keep it very prominent so everyone can see it.”
Meanwhile, it’s been suggested Prince William will help plan his father’s “slimmed down” coronation next year.
Wills is expected to be part of the the Coronation Committee to help plan the May 6 ceremony.
