A Scots family have been left with nothing after 'soul-destroying' blaze ripped through their home while they were at the supermarket.
Anita Bain, 40, was in Asda when she received a panicked call from a neighbour telling her that her house was on fire.
Emergency services raced to the scene on School Place, in New Pitsligo, Fraserburgh, at around 2pm on Friday, February 11.
Despite firefighters' best efforts, the family home was reduced to a shell after the inferno ripped through the property.
Anita, her three teenage children and their family dog were thankfully not in the house at the time of the blaze and no one was injured.
Devastating pictures show the charred remains of their home in the aftermath of the fire.
Single mum Anita told the Record: "I was out and my neighbour phoned me on Facebook messenger.
"We had passed the fire engine on the way to the shop.
"She phoned when were in Asda and started screaming 'your house is on fire, you need to get home'.
"I didn't know what she was talking about at first.
"I literally chucked the shopping back in the freezers and shouted to my two kids who were with me that we had to go, the house was on fire."
"It was still smouldering when we arrived.
"We couldn't get near the house initially, they had already taped off half of the street and wouldn't let me past the cordon - but I could see the black smoke.
"It was a good hour before I was allowed to get access to see the damage.
"There's nothing left, there is a pile of ash outside the living room window, even my sofas are gone.
"The living room is just a shell.
"We had to use a torch to look inside because it was just so dark, even though there are windows."
