A Scots gran says she doesn't "feel like living anymore" after mountains of rotting bin bags were dumped outside her home.
Elizabeth Geddes has told how she’s been battling swarms of flies and a rodent infestation at her flat in Armadale, West Lothian, since January this year.
The 77-year-old said a “horrendous” smell has also been wafting through the home forcing desperate attempts to mask it with plug-in air fresheners.
The pensioner, who shares the property with her son as he recovers from a stroke, believes the problem is being caused by a neighbour storing rubbish inside their own property.
Gran of five Elizabeth, reached breaking point last week when she discovered over 40 bags of waste had been dumped outside her home of 22 years.
She said: “I don’t feel like living anymore. I’ve never had much in my life but I’ve always been clean and house proud. I’ve lived here for 22 years and it’s never been like this. I’m scared for mine and my son’s health. The flies started coming in in January.
“My husband had just died and I thought they were coming off the flowers that folk were bringing round. But then I started noticing this disgusting smell. It was just everywhere and was absolutely horrendous.
"Then I found out rubbish was being piled up by my neighbour. Couches, tables, bin bags and four rubbish buckets appeared in the garden. An old mattress was left against my toilet window.
“The council came out and did a bulk uplift of all the rubbish and my daughter scrubbed my house from top to bottom. But then by April, the smell started coming back again.”
Elizabeth has reported the ongoing issue to the Wheatley Homes East housing association, who manage both properties. But matters peaked last week after 40 bags of rubbish appeared
