A doctor is being probed over the alleged theft of thousands of pounds of protective equipment at the height of the Covid pandemic.
It is claimed that the woman, 43, swiped then sold life-saving items such as masks, face visors, and body suits from NHS facilities.
The medic was employed by an agency which provided locums to Scottish NHS hospitals and surgeries when they are needed. The investigation centres on alleged incidents between May and October 2020.
A source close to the probe claimed equipment worth a “five-figure sum” was allegedly taken.
The source said: “The case is now with the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service to decide whether or not to prosecute. This could be career-ending if she was to be convicted.”
A Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal spokesperson said: “The Procurator Fiscal has received a report concerning a 43-year-old female and 45-year-old male in relation to alleged incidents between May 30 and October 7, 2020 in Glasgow. The report remains under the consideration of the Procurator Fiscal.”
Marlene Fraser, NHS Lanarkshire Head of Human Resources, said: “This doctor has not undertaken any shifts within NHS Lanarkshire for over two years. We are unable to comment any further.”
