A man who vanished with his gran’s £50,000 life savings more than five years ago has yet to repay her – despite being linked to a booming pet care business.
James Mill, 35, was taken to court by his grandmother Isabella Mill after the nest egg she entrusted him with to help her buy a home went missing. We previously told of the heartbroken pensioner’s tears over the bitter legal battle which had torn the family apart – and she feared she would never see the money again.
Mill now has a role in a doggy day care firm run from his gated £320,000 villa in Irvine. The business charges up to £35 a day per pooch and caters for as many as 17 dogs at a time.
A source told the Record: “It’s obvious Mill is taking an active role in the business as he can be seen driving their van around to take the dogs for a walk. I wonder if any of this has been paid back to his gran?”
Isabella, 79, said she and her partner John McCarten, 77, have still seen no sign of their money. She said: “I didn’t think he could do this to me.”
The retired factory supervisor first revealed her ordeal in 2021. She spoke of her “anger” at the grandson she once loved while ex-lorry driver John said he had been left “feeling sick” at the loss of their savings.
Their nightmare began when widowed Isabella decided to sell the flat she owned and buy a home with John. They claim Mill, who has had business ventures in property and hospitality, offered to be their “agent” and deal with solicitors on their behalf.
Isabella said she initially gave him £4000, which he said would be used towards the purchase, before transferring £26,000, and a further £2650 in “lawyer’s fees” via internet banking. John then transferred his £20,000 share.
But the couple’s money didn’t make it
