A Scots boy who survived a rare brain tumour has raised over £10,000 for two charities - with help from The Proclaimers. Kieran and his mum Senga hosted the Warrior's Ball back in September 2022 after his three-year long cancer battle.
Inspired by Kieran's story, Scottish duo The Proclaimers donated £3,000 towards the event, with Ayrshire business Nelson Track Solutions contributing a further £2,000. All the money raised was split equally between Callum's Cabin and Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity, both of which supported Kieran during his time in hospital.
The Kilwinning youngster was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma after doctors found five tumours on his brain back in March 2018. The then 12-year-old was taken for surgery before undergoing an intense course of radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
Unfortunately, Kieran suffered from Posterior Fossa Syndrome following his operation, which meant he had to learn to walk, speak and swallow again. After a long recovery in hospital, he was finally hailed cancer-free in January 2021.
Determined to give back to the charities that had helped him through his cancer journey, Kieran and his mum Senga decided to organised the first Warrior's Ball.
Senga said: 'Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity helped my son after he was left in a wheelchair with Posterior Fossa Syndrome after his surgery. Kieran was even able to practice his cooking skills in hospital thanks to the adapted kitchen funded by the charity.'
"I'm forever grateful for the support the charity have given Kieran and our family."
The fundraiser was originally supposed to be held in 2020, but had to be postponed due to Covid restrictions. After nearly two years of delays, the ball was eventually able to take place in September.
