The top four walks in Scotland have been revealed, and they look perfect for a day out with the family.
With the February half-term break finally here, it is time to start thinking about how to make the most of the time off. Whether you are looking to spend some quality time with your little ones or are just keen for some fresh air, there is nothing better than a good walk in the spectacular Scottish countryside.
To help you decide on where to head for a scenic hike, outdoor experts at GO Outdoors have named the top 20 walks across the UK. Four of these are located within Scotland, with the researchers singling out Ben Macdui and Cairngorm, as well as the Cateran Trail, Loch Katrine, and Ben Lomond.
According to GO Outdoors, Ben Macdui and Cairngorm is a 'moderate' loop just under 18 kilometres in length. Taking around six hours to complete, it will guide you up to the summit of the region's two most iconic peaks — with Ben Macdui being the second-highest peak in the whole of the UK behind only Ben Nevis.
Elsewhere in the Cairngorms, the Cateran Trail is an even bigger undertaking at 24.5 kilometres in length, though it's also classed as 'moderate' in difficulty. Taking just over seven hours from start to finish, it is popular amongst experienced hikers and amateur walkers alike for stunning sights such as the charming village of Bridge of Cally.
Moving over to the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, Ben Lomond is the perfect route for those who don't want to spend all day hiking and are after a more relaxed experience. According to the experts, the walk takes around 3.5 hours to complete and is classed as 'easy' due to its gentle terrain and relative lack of navigation required.
