Taylor Swift’s Box Office Reign: 4 Takeaways From ‘Eras Tour’ Opening Weekend

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter Taylor Swift may have singlehandedly salvaged the fall box office with “The Eras Tour.” The cinematic rendering of her sold-out stadium tour danced into theaters not just as a blockbuster, but a cultural phenomenon. With $95 million to $97 million in its domestic debut and $130 million globally, it’s easily the best start of all time for a concert film, as well as one of the biggest opening weekends of the year. At the higher end of projections, it could be the top-grossing October debut in North American history, a record currently held by 2019’s “Joker” with $96 million.

surprise appearance on “Saturday Night Live” a day earlier and the success of Swift’s concert film — estimated to have brought in astronomical numbers at the box office.“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” raked in close to $96 million at the box office in the United States and Canada, movie theater chain AMC said Sunday — making it the highest-grossing concert film for an opening weekend. The biggest domestic concert films prior to Swit’s were 2011’s “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never,” which finished with total earnings of $73 million, and 2009’s “Michael Jackson’s This Is It,” cashing in with $72 million box office sales, according to IMDb.The runners-up at the box office by a long shot this weekend were the “Exorcist: Believer,” with estimated ticket sales of $11 million, and the family-friendly animation “Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie,” racking in a mere $7 million.Kelce spent Sunday afternoon at MetLife stadium watching his brother, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, and his team fall short of a victory over the New York Jets. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end was photographed leaving the “Cruel Summer” singer’s NYC apartment solo on Sunday, decked out in a green tracksuit with white Nike sneakers, black shades, and a backward baseball cap as he hopped into a black SUV outside the songstress’ luxe pad.Despite being a well-known Eagles fan from Pennsylvania, Swift did not attend the game with her new beau. The duo seems to be playing into the world’s interest with their blossoming relationship since both attended “SNL” on Saturday night, with Kelce even featured in a skit poking fun at the NFL and Swiftys’ obsession with their romance. The athlete appeared in a sketch based on a parody of “Fox NFL Sunday,” where the crew

Suits creator Aaron Korsh is reportedly in the early stages of creating a spin-off series of the US legal drama.According to The Hollywood Reporter, the companion series would be set in the same world as the streaming hit, rather than a prequel or sequel. The possible new series would include new characters and a fresh setting – with sources reporting that would be Los Angeles, on the opposite side of the country to its original New York setting. The Hollywood Reporter added that discussions are underway with Universal Studio Group’s UCP, which produced Suits for USA Network.Dave Bartis and Doug Liman, who were executive producers of Suits, are also reportedly involved in the new project. In August, Korsh told The Hollywood Reporter that he’d consider a Suits revival “if someone reached out and the cast was into it,” but only “if I could come up with something that excited me. SUNDAY AM: Refresh for chart and more analysis Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie is lapping up $23M, a big win for Paramount and Spin Master as the picture is part of a $14 billion global retail franchise which both companies get a nice cut of. And successful movies drive toy sales. It was part of Brian Robbins’ plan when he took over Paramount Pictures Studios to have family brands work at the box office, which also have a rainfall of cash in merchandise, particularly in an entertainment conglomerate that counts the powerful, and evergreen Nickelodeon brand. EntTelligence says Paw Patrol 2 drew 2.3M admissions, with close to half of the pic’s tickets being sold at child pricing.

Box Office: ‘PAW Patrol’ Claws Control as ‘Saw’ Rolls to Second, ‘The Creator’ Tapers in Third

J. Kim Murphy There was one key question gripping the box office heading into this weekend: would audiences be PAWing, or would they be Sawing? The animated feature is edging out Lionsgate’s horror entry “Saw X” to lead domestic charts.

‘Saw X’ Leads Previews With $2M, ‘The Creator’ $1.6M – Box Office

Hopefully three wide releases can wake up what’s been a relatively sleep time at the box office, ratcheted down by the SAG-AFTRA strike. With New Regency/20th Century Studios/Disney’s original Gareth Edwards sci-fi movie The Creator, Paramount and Spin Master’s PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie, and Lionsgate’s Saw X, the top three movies look to make around $45M. All three of them are vying for No. 1 with a high teens take, however, it’s likely a two-way race between PAW Patrol 2 and The Creator since both pics have had the loudest marketing campaigns, and Lionsgate usually executes their smaller budgeted movies on the cheap.

However, some projections go as high as $20 million to $25 million, overtaking the “PAW Patrol” pups.
