Sarah Lancashire has explained why she will never return to Coronation Street - despite the show kickstarting her career. The award-winning actress got her big break as Raquel Watts on the cobbles in the early 90s.
Fans adored her relationship with eventual husband Curly after they met at Bettabuy, with her going on to work behind the bar in the Rovers. She walked out on Curly to take an aromatherapy job in Kuala Lumpur, making a brief return in 2000 to ask for a divorce.
Sarah went on to become an award-winning actress and won legions of fans for her role as Sergeant Catherine Cawood in Happy Valley. She collected two awards at this week's National Television Awards, including Best Drama Performance.

Despite her fond memories of the soap that made her name, she says too much time has passed for a return., the Mirror reports. She said she was "very proud” of her time on the show but joked that her character would be too old for her famously skimpy wardrobe.
She said: “It’s very clear why I would never go back because the show evolves, decade by decade. When people say ‘I was in Coronation Street’, you think, ‘Well, which one?’ Was it the 60s, the 70s, the 80s? They all have a defining quality.
"I know when I was there in the 90s it was very specific to that time and that place, with a voice for writers who were just absolutely brilliant. Heavens, my character would be so old now – too old for short skirts!"
