Avatar star Sam Worthington says shooting will resume next month on the next installment of the fantasy-sci-fi franchise, and promises that the third film in the series will be “bigger than you can imagine.”
In an exclusive interview with People posted today, Worthington says about the upcoming Avatar, “We go back to work on it in a month and it’s big. It’s bigger than you can imagine.”
Worthington, as the franchise’s Jake Sully, costars with Zoe Saldaña and Kate Winslet in the third film in director James Cameron‘s franchise. Cameron said in November that Avatar 3 is on track for a Christmas 2025 release following a postponement from initial projections of Christmas 2024.
Some filming on both the third and fourth films was shot during filming for the 2022 second installment.
Earlier last year, the director told Deadline that the next film would use fire as “a symbolic purpose in the film and there’s a culture that is specifically around that concept.”
The 47-year-old Worthington spoke to People on Monday at the New York City premiere of Netflix’s Lift. His comments come as the first season of Netflix’s live-action Avatar reimagining, Avatar: The Last Airbender, is set to premiere on February 22.
