Nearly 30 years ago, creators of Essence Magazine came to New Orleans to celebrate the publication's 25th anniversary with a salute to Black women highlighting culture, empowerment conversations with the nation's thought leaders and, of course, music. The Essence Music Festival has since morphed into the Essence Festival of Culture, which, in its 29th year, kicks off Thursday and goes through July 3 across various venues in downtown New Orleans.The Ernest N. Morial Convention Center will hold most of the free workshops, vendor exhibits and celebrity meet-and-greets.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band have announced further support acts joining them at their BST Hyde Park Shows.Announced today (June 16), the newly-announced acts will join The Boss for his upcoming shows in London on Thursday July 6 and Saturday July 8. They will also join previously announced special guests, including The Chicks, Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls — who will be performing at the first show — and James Bay, who will support the rock veteran at the Saturday slot.13 new artists have been named in the announcement, with The Coronas, STONE, Picture Parlour, First Time Flyers, Theo Lawrence and Attawalpa all set to take to the stage at the first show.Newly revealed names supporting the ‘Born In The U.S.A’  icon for the second of the two gigs are Brittney Spencer, Pa Sheehy, Kezia Gill and Kelly McGrath.

John Bleasdale Guest Contributor “Ozi, Voice of the Forest” premiered at the Annecy Festival on June 13, kicking off a series of films that seek to highlight dangers to the environment.  The film tells the story of a young orangutan Ozi, voiced by Amandla Stenberg (“The Hunger Games”), who becomes separated from her parents when her rain forest home is devastated by a company producing palm oil.  With the additional voice talents of Laura Dern, Djimon Hounsou and Donald Sutherland, the film also boasts a broad array of talent behind the camera including Keith Chapman, creator of “PAW Patrol” and Madrid-based Rodrigo Blaas, behind the “Sith” episode in “Star Wars Visions,” as part of the creative team. Leonardo DiCaprio and legendary producer and former studio head Mike Medavoy are credited as producers.

In a first look at tonight’s dramatic episode of Love Island, Jess Harding is fuming as bombshell Leah Taylor snogs Sammy Root, who Jess is currently coupled up with, in a new challenge called She’s A Keeper.The She's A Keeper game tests each girl's football skills before they're asked to give one of the boys a red card, and choose another to kiss as their star player.
