Eurovision Song Contest presenter Rylan Clark has been praised by fans for seemingly taking a stand amid the controversy surrounding Israel's participation in the singing competition.
In Malmo, Sweden, thousands of protesters rallied to remove Israeli singer Eden Golan from the semi-finals. When British TV presenter Rylan appeared to skip a quick interview with Eden for the show's TikTok account, many speculated he was making a political statement.
Rylan had been conducting several interviews with contestants while posing as a bell boy in the hotel lift - but Eden reportedly did not have this opportunity. In the video of Eden's interview, a voice can be heard asking her questions as she entered the lift alone.
The reason for Rylan's absence during the segment remains unclear - but fans have their theories and suggest he was making a political statement. The ongoing conflict in the Middle East between Israel and Palestine, which has claimed tens of thousands of lives since October last year, adds a layer of complexity to the situation, reports the Mirror.
One viewer took to X, previously known as Twitter, and posted: "Not @Rylan refusing to do Eden Golan's elevator interview. We Stan this."
Somebody else chimed in with: "Well done @Rylan for doing the right thing! " Although, the European Broadcasting Union argues numerous videos exist without Rylan's participation and stated: "There are several videos in that content series that do not include Rylan".
This incident follows Rylan standing by the contest amidst pro-Palestinian protests, while broadcasting from Malmo. He chatted with Good Morning Britain on ITV regarding the host city's commendable efforts and remarked: "Malmo is doing an amazing job of hosting."
