Ryan Giggs sent his ex a "deeply offensive" email after she uninvited him from a holiday to Scotland, a court heard.The 48 year old former Manchester United star is accused of controlling and coercive behaviour towards Kate Greville during their six-year relationship – all of which he denies. Jurors at Manchester Crown Court have seen dozens of messages and emails between the pair during the trial, which is now in its second week.
Giggs was questioned by prosecutor Peter Wright QC and shown an email he sent to Ms Greville in June 2020.This was sent five months before he was accused of assaulting Ms Greville during an argument at their home in Worsley, Greater Manchester, which he also denies. The email, which had a subject line of ‘C**t’, was allegedly sent after Ms Greville uninvited Giggs from a trip to Scotland.The court heard this morning, 17 August, that Ms Greville was to go to Scotland to visit three hotels as part of a PR job and had invited Giggs to come with her.
Giggs told jurors this morning: “I was excited. We quite often went to Scotland.
We would love going on our weekend trips to Scotland, going walking and I would play golf and we would go quite frequently. “They were all in Scotland and would require a lot of driving and spending time together so I was excited.” Referring to the email he sent to Ms Greville after she uninvited Giggs from the trip, Mr Wright said: “Is it you can’t stop yourself when you pen an email with the title ‘C*nt’? What was it that caused you to be so angry?” Giggs said: “It was from the trip we organised and then we were no longer on the trip together.” Mr Wright continued: “That’s a deeply, deeply offensive word isn’t it?” to which Giggs responded: “Yes, it is.” The email, seen
