Peter Debruge Chief Film Critic Don’t let the word “bike” fool you. In Jeff Nichols’ “The Bikeriders,” the wheels in question are choppers — good, all-American motorcycles, built from the ground up by tough guys in leather jackets — and the “club” they’re a part of is really more of a gang.

While it was difficult for the world to discern at the time, and maybe even now, to the legendary, notorious absurdist comedian Andy Kaufman, comedy was an art, and the act of performance was an act worth living in beyond the stage. Infamous for his strange, bizarre comedic behavior and erratic and provocative, even goading, live appearances, Kaufman, the subject of the documentary “Thank You Very Much: Andy Kaufman,” was seemingly on a quest for truth.

TELLURIDE- Despite a varied resume that includes art-house Sci-Fi, a classic coming-of-age tale, and a haunting drama on racial injustice, we weren’t sure Jeff Nichols had it in him to make a movie such as “The Bikeriders.” After its world premiere at the 2023 Telluride Film Festival, we’ll likely never doubt him again. Nichols has crafted a highly entertaining period piece on a legendary biker club that is at times sexy, funny, and filled with fisticuffs.

Special prosecutors have not decided whether criminal charges will be refiled against Alec Baldwin in the fatal 2021 shooting of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, but the actor this week is trying to stop crew members from the indie Western from taking him to court.

A new report overseeing the fatal shooting on the Rust movie set appears to cast doubt on Alec Baldwin’s accounts of the incident.

Halyna Hutchins was tragically killed on the set of in October 2021 when the prop gun Alec Baldwin was holding suddenly discharged, striking and killing the cinematographer and injuring director Joel Souza. In the months since tragedy struck in New Mexico, lawsuits were filed, criminal charges were filed — then dropped, for Baldwin — and allegations were made, including that the film's armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, consumed alcohol and smoked marijuana during filming of the Western.Then, on June 29, 2023, prosecutors filed legal documents in the First Judicial District Court in Santa Fe County, New Mexico, claiming Gutierrez-Reed «transferred a 'small bag of cocaine'» to a witness it has been in contact with.

"Rust" armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed entered a not guilty plea Wednesday to involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence charges. In addition, District Court Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer entered a scheduling order in the case and set the trial dates for Dec. 6-15, 2023.
