Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello says dynamic ticket pricing is an “awful idea”

Tom Morello has discussed the ticket prices for Rage Against The Machine‘s recent reunion tour, saying that dynamic ticket pricing is an “awful idea”.The band reunited last year for a number of US gigs, but ended up cancelling dozens of  shows in the wake of frontman Zack de la Rocha injuring his leg onstage last July.In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Morello asked the journalist if he could “check a couple of boxes surrounding the U.S. tour and some misunderstandings around them”.Firstly, he hit out at “foolish” reports of vaccine mandates at Rage shows, saying: “No fans at any show in the history of Rage Against the Machine have ever had a vaccination requirement to be in the room.”Then, he discussed criticism of the tour’s ticket prices, and how the band employed controversial dynamic pricing.

John Robb on his massive new goth book: “It’s simple: no Bowie, no scene”

Membranes frontman and journalist John Robb has spoken to NME about his new book detailing the origins and rise of goth. The monolithic book has taken 10 years to write and looks at artists including Bauhaus, Nick Cave and The Cure and their place in building one of music’s most important scenes.“I’ve read a lot of books about the post-punk period and goth is always just dismissively kicked away,” Robb told NME. “It’s always really annoyed me that people have been quite sniffy about bands like Bauhaus or Killing Joke, despite them being some of the best art rock bands this country has produced. They were often looked down upon, all because they had a dark side and dressed up a bit.”Robb said that he hopes his book will do for goth what Jon Savage’s book, England’s Dreaming, did for punk in getting people to take it more seriously.

Jay Weston, ‘Lady Sings the Blues’ Producer, Dies at 93

Katie Reul editor Jay Weston, producer of films like “Lady Sings the Blues” and “Buddy Buddy,” died of natural causes Feb. 28 at the Motion Picture Home in Woodland Hills, Calif. He was 93. Weston first met Billie Holiday at the Newport Jazz Festival — a chance encounter that would ultimately lead to Weston producing a biopic about her starring Diana Ross in 1972. “Lady Sings the Blues” marked Ross’ feature debut and went on to score five Academy Award nominations, including best actress for Ross and original screenplay. “I read the book and I said to [Holiday’s] agent, ‘I want to make a movie out of it,’” Weston said in a 2011 interview with the Los Angeles Business Journal, referring to the jazz singer’s autobiography. “He said, ‘Give me $5,000, and I’ll think about it.’ So I gave him $5,000, and it took 13 years and many $5,000 payments to keep the rights because everybody wanted it.”
