EXCLUSIVE: Indian mega-star Ranveer Singh has signed for representation with WME in all areas globally.
Singh was launched onto the Indian cinema scene in 2010 by Yash Raj Film in the romantic comedy Band Baaja Baaraat, co-starring opposite Anushka Sharma in a breakthrough role.
He has since racked up 20 feature credits with highlights including a trio of hit films directed by iconic Indian director Sanjay Leela: the tragic romance Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, costume drama Bajirao Mastani, and the historical romance Padmaavat.
The versatile actor has also appeared in the Paris-set romance Befikre, corrupt cop comedy Simmba and street rapper, coming-of-age tale Gully Boy, in which he rapped his own music, including chart-topping “Apna Time Aayega.”
The latter film was chosen as India’s entry in the Academy Awards’ international feature film category in 2020 and won 13 Awards at India’s Filmfare Awards, breaking the record for most wins by a film in the same year.
More recently, Singh won critical acclaim as Indian cricket legend Kapil Dev in the sports biopic 83 and will next be seen in director Karan Johar’s romantic comedy Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani.
Outside of film and TV, Singh is one of the most sought-after personalities across India. He also has a strong following globally, particularly in the MENA region where his appearances at festivals such as Marrakech and Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea have drawn big crowds.
With a brand value of $181.7 million, Singh was India’s most-valued celebrity of 2022, according to a report by risk and financial advisory firm Kroll.

Naman Ramachandran Netflix has unveiled a new teaser for “The Archies,” a coming-of-age, live action musical set in 1960s India based on the teenagers of Riverdale. “The Archies” is a feature film adaptation of the Archie comics, which are hugely popular on the Indian subcontinent. The teaser, released during Netflix’s Tudum fan event, reveals that the film is set in 1964 in Riverdale, described on a railway sign as a “hill station,” a term dating back to colonial time that refers to a town located at a higher elevation than the nearby plain. One of the transport links servicing the hill stations are small mountain railway trains running on narrow gauge tracks, known affectionately in India as “toy trains” and the teaser opens with a shot of top train puffing into Riverdale station.

Naman Ramachandran India’s Rajshri Deshpande, star of Rotterdam winner “Sexy Durga” and hit Netflix series “Trial by Fire,” headlines “Privacy,” the first teaser for which has been unveiled. The film will have its world premiere at Korea’s Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BiFan). “Privacy” is a voyeuristic social thriller set in and around the slums of Mumbai. It follows Roopali (Deshpande), who works at the Mumbai surveillance command and control center as an operator. While being ambitious, she constantly fights her own guilt and resists her dark past. Things start to get complicated when Roopali ignores protocol and begins to investigate a robbery and murder that takes place on her watch. The film takes the neo-noir approach to explore themes of mental health, voyeurism and access to information.

Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief The U.K.’s London Indian Film Festival and Birmingham Indian Film Festival will work together to present a two-city, two-part panoply of feature and short films, kicking off next month with “The Storyteller.” Directed by Ananth Mahadevan, “The Storyteller” sees Adil Hussain play a Gujarati businessman who believes that once physical wealth is accumulated, happiness will follow, but this proves not to be the case. Paresh Rawal plays the titular storyteller. The film is based on a story by the late, great Bengali filmmaker Satyajit Ray and contrasts the pursuit of material wealth with that of intellectual knowledge. Hussain, co-star Tannishtha Chatterjee and Mahadevan are expected to be on hand for Q&A sessions on June 22 at BFI Southbank and on June 23 at MAC Birmingham.
