Forget ‘normcore’ and ‘balletcore’, because there’s a new fashion buzzword doing the rounds – ‘quiet luxury’ has been coined as a new mood for 2023. Its influence has been linked to two recent cultural moments that hit headlines: 1) Gwyneth Paltrow's chic courtroom wardrobe and 2) the popular series Succession, which recently dropped season 4. But what does the term quiet luxury actually mean? In a nutshell, it’s the mega rich not showing their wealth – which means no designer logos (sorry, Kim K), no heavy bling, no OTT designs that look like they’ve fallen straight off the latest catwalk.
Instead, think understated yet premium basics some would argue have similar hallmarks to ‘classics’, or investment styles that don’t shout for attention. If you have cash to spend, choose pieces that are well-made and muted – a cream cashmere cardigan paired with delicate (uber expensive) gold jewellery, for example, or a soft leather tote bag from Celine or The Row, or a well-cut black dress that is simply chic but costs a small fortune. These buys are low-key but have a high-end un-fussiness about them. Jeans also fall prey to the term – yes, who knew jeans could be quiet luxury? Think baggy vintage styles paired with an expensive coat and chic jersey vest.
If you’re prepared to pay around the £300 mark for your jeans, try brands such as Toteme and Stockholm-based label Toteme. Kendall Jenner and Hailey Beiber even displayed the trend at Coachella this year. Surprisingly, the It Girls didn’t display the usual festival aesthetic, as there wasn’t a touch of fringe, glitter or boho embellishment in sight.

One thing HBO Max’s “The Other Two” understands more than any show on TV right now is there’s nothing quite so destabilizing as comparing yourself to other people. Naveen Kumar If there is a megawatt star in “New York, New York,” the new musical from Broadway titans John Kander and the late Fred Ebb (with additional lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda), it’s right there in the title. Aside from the occasional f-bomb and pantomimed scurry of rats, the show that opened at Broadway’s St. James Theatre is a love letter to Manhattan so unabashed that its vibe might be best expressed in cityscape and heart-eye emojis. Cynical? These New Yorkers? Fuhgeddaboudit! Though inspired by the 1977 film directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Robert De Niro and Liza Minnelli, “New York, New York” is more accurately described as a musical-length rhapsody on the dreams crooned out in its title song, made famous by Frank Sinatra and naturally performed here as a big-band finale turned audience singalong. A crowded cast of characters has come to chase their dreams, and most of them want to be musicians.

I can’t be saying who’s not and who is.
Princess Beatrice's baby daughter Sienna could be seen showing a glimpse of her red auburn hair in a new snap of the late Queen Elizabeth II.The image was a posed family portrait with the monarch and her young grandchildren and great-grandchildren in the latter days of her life. A few of the great-grandchildren were unfortunately missing from the monumental snap - in particular the Duke of Sussex Prince Harry's children Prince Archie, three, and Princess Lilibet, one, Princess Eugenie's son August Brooksbank, and 34 year old Princess Beatrice's daughter Sienna, who would have been one at the time.
Voice Notes by Yazmin Lacey plays like you're skipping stations on an old radio set. Jazz, neo-soul, dub, and electronic sounds filter across the airwaves while London-born Lacey acts like the DJ, following you from song to song with stories shared like an old friend over dinner. It is an album that catches me off guard every time I return to it as a new favorite song emerges.
