The late Queen made her final appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony after a chat with Charles, which shows how much she cared about her duties, according to a royal expert. The Queen surprised everyone by showing up on the last day of the Platinum Jubilee in 2022, even though she was ill, as experts believe the then Prince Charles convinced her to attend the event.
Royal expert and historian Wesley Kerr said the Queen wanted to look strong for the people. He explained on Channel 5's Secrets of the Royal Palaces: "She wanted us to see her as the Queen. Trooping had been quite difficult and she stayed in the palace for some hours after Trooping which surprised me on the day."
On Thursday, June 2, the Queen watched the RAF flyover, but she couldn't go to a special church service at St Paul's Cathedral the next day because she wasn't feeling well, the Mirror reports.
She also missed the Epsom Derby and the huge Jubilee concert, but she still showed her fun side by making a sweet video with Paddington Bear. Talking about how Charles asked the Queen to join in the celebrations, an expert shared: "It was only when Charles rang up from the royal box and said, mummy, you know, there's vast numbers of people here, there's a wonderful atmosphere, is there any chance that you could make it?"
He added: "Little did we know this was the last time we were ever to see her on that famous balcony. A huge moment."
The book 'Our King' by Robert Jobson says the Queen had plans to fly by helicopter from Windsor Castle to Buckingham Palace and to use a wheelchair.
Royal writer Emily Andrews said: "They didn't know she was ill, they didn't know she was suffering in pain and they didn't understand why the Queen wasn't there."
