A puppy owner was left devastated after claiming she watched her beloved pet being mauled to death by an XL Bully. Cocker spaniel Luna was being walked by Claire Goodwin when he was savagely attacked in front of stunned witnesses on November 5 at a park in Tamworth.
Luna, who was 13 months at the time of the attack, was rushed to a vet but sadly could not be saved. The tragic incident was reported to police. An investigation was launched and cops were due to question a man in his 20s.
Mum-of-two Claire said she and her children had been discussing how much they loved Luna, who was a gift from her partner moments before he was attacked. The 49-year-old wept as she recalled the timid dog's fare.
Speaking to Birmingham Live, she said: "We were talking about how much we loved Luna and how precious she was. I glanced to my left and I saw a dog - I've never seen a look in a dog's eyes like it."
She claimed the dog was an XL Bully, although it was described by police as a "mastiff-type breed", and said it rushed towards them, forcing Claire's daughter to pick up Luna in a bid to shield her from harm. But she said the dog managed to get hold of Luna and the puppy was "ripped" from her daughter's arms.
Claire said Luna was severely injured and she suffered a chin wound as she tried to grab the other dog's collar, a reaction she said was driven by "pure adrenalin". She continued: "The three of us were traumatised.
"We went to the car to get Luna some help. Members of the public helped us as I was bleeding from my chin and Luna was bleeding a lot - we were hysterical."

Alison Herman TV Critic From the moment Reed Hastings tuned into an earnings call wearing a green-and-white tracksuit, it was clear Netflix may have learned the wrong lessons from the success of “Squid Game.” In 2021, the South Korean drama — created, written and directed by auteur Hwang Dong-hyuk — became a surprise global sensation with a grim and violent allegory of capitalism exploiting the desperate many for the enjoyment of a wealthy few. Hastings, a rich and powerful tech founder, was closer to one of the titular game’s masked spectators than a contestant risking their life for a chance at the prize, though he didn’t seem to see the irony.
