Pupils at a Perthshire primary school have been gifted their very own tree in the grounds of Crieff Hydro Hotel to mark Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The local resort is taking part in the Queen’s Green Canopy project, a tree-planting initiative calling on people across the UK to plant trees to honour the Queen’s 70th anniversary on the throne.
Crieff Hydro has planted 70 oak trees in its brand-new Jubilee Woodland, and pupils from Madderty Primary School had the chance to visit their very own tree which has been gifted to them to mark the Jubilee.
Members of the school’s eco committee have been learning about how planting trees can help the local community and environment, and visited the hotel recently to officially unveil the dedicated plaque on their tree.
Gwyneth Marshall, a teacher at Madderty Primary School, said: “The children were ecstatic to be gifted a tree to mark the Jubilee, especially as it ties in with what we’ve been doing in the classroom.
“Our eco committee has been learning about how planting new trees can benefit the environment and more widely, classes have been looking at the history of the Queen’s reign in the lead up to the Platinum Jubilee.
“We are delighted that there will always be a tree dedicated to our school at Crieff Hydro.”
The school’s plaque unveiling follows a visit from His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent and HRH Prince Michael of Kent, who unveiled the new plaque at the entrance to Jubilee Woodland.
Kristian Campbell, general manager at Crieff Hydro Hotel, said: “The Platinum Jubilee is a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together, so what better way to celebrate our participation in the Queen’s Green Canopy than by dedicating a tree to one of the great schools on

"She would not want to stumble – not for her own sake but for the distress it would cause other people," Lacey told People magazine. However, her absence was even felt at events she did attend.

Cheeky comedian Lee Mack wasted no time in using the Queen's Platinum Jubilee as an opportunity to stick the knife in Boris Johnson – metaphorically of course. The northern comic, 53, opened the concert, which is being held outside the gates of Buckingham Palace, by making light of the so-called 'partygate' affair in Downing Street. Speaking with the Prime Minister in attendance, who was in the royal box, Mack said: "Finally we can say the words ‘party’ and ‘gate’ and it’s a positive."
