We know her best for offering up her expert critique on The Great British Bake Off alongside co-host Paul Hollywood, but away from our screens Prue Leith leaves a far more private life, with her husband John Playfair. Yet unlike most married couples, Prue and John didn’t actually live together for much of their married life - something which often surprises many fans at home. However in a recent appearance on Good Morning Britain, Prue, 84, finally clued viewers in on why the couple made the decision to maintain separate homes despite their eight year long marriage - and it actually makes perfect sense.
Speaking on Monday’s episode (19 February) Prue explained: “If you’re our age when you meet, you both have a house, you own kitchens and an enormous amount of stuff. I had a nine bedroom house, a huge, big house, stuffed full of mostly my children's stuff. “John had a huge house.
So we could never get around to combining the two because you know what it’s like moving. So we never, ever did it.” She added: “Then gradually we thought it would be nice to build a house of our own. And if we started with a new house, then we would both sell our houses.” Despite their initial reservations, the couple did eventually decide to move in together, with their new Oxfordshire home together serving as the setting of Prue’s new show: Prue Leith’s Cotswolds Kitchen.
Speaking about her new home, Prue said: “It’s very modern and it's in the middle of the Cotswolds. And what I loved about filming at home was that my make-up lady would knock on my door at eight o'clock and say ‘Wake up Prue, we're all ready, get into the make-up chair’, instead of having to get up at five in the morning and travel to some studio miles away. It was wonderful
