A violent robbery gang targeted cash in transit drivers armed with a red-bladed axe. In total, the group stole over a quarter of a million pounds in the attacks.
Paul Dunn, 34, Liam McCloy, 35, and Nathan Kennedy, 42, targeted various guards as they were depositing the cash, and each time would hit them to the head with the weapon.
One guard was targeted twice as he made his rounds, Manchester Crown Court heard.

After each pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery, they were jailed for a total of 28 years.
Prosecuting, Joe Allman said the group were organised, with the men wearing balaclavas or face coverings, gloves and dark clothing to avoid detection. Between July 2021 and April 2022 there were five robberies, in which large sums were stolen as guards were replenishing ATMs with cassettes.
The first robbery took place at Zenith Law in Trafford. Dunn sent a WhatsApp message to Kennedy saying: “Ready”, with Kennedy responding: “Hell yeah”.
“At 15.20pm, two cash in transit operators were working together to refill an ATM. The cassette contained £10,000 in cash,” Mr Allman said.
“Two men entered the building, one was carrying an axe and ordered the men to ‘open it’. When one of the guards told them it was locked, they struck him on the head with an axe.”
That afternoon £2,900 was deposited into Kennedy’s bank account, and a further £1,650 was deposited into Dunn’s account.
Mr Allmann detailed other robberies where the men targeted several guards in a similar way for large amounts of cash. In one robbery from the Premier Shop in Stretford, over £100,000 was stolen.
