Producers Guild Awards Unwraps Film & Television Nominees

Daisy Ridley may have starred in several films since the last “Star Wars” movie, 2019’s “The Rise Of Starwalker,” but for general audiences she’ll always be Rey. Is that for better or worse? Well, even diehard “Star Wars” fans aren’t thrilled that the heroine is the paternal granddaughter of Emperor Palpatine.

American Cinemas Editors has cut together the nominees for its 74rd annual ACE Eddie Awards, which will be handed out next month. See the list of all 13 film and TV categories below.

The Society of Composers and Lyricists (SCL) will honor the late Robbie Robertson and director Martin Scorsese with the Spirit of Collaboration Award at the 5th Annual SCL Awards, to be held Tuesday, Feb. 13 at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. 

The nominations for the 96th Oscars revealed Tuesday included a diverse mix of Best Picture contenders, from box office blockbusters and festival favorites to sweeping streamer epics and indie darlings.

Clayton Davis Senior Awards Editor Women filmmakers hit a milestone with this year’s 2024 Oscar nominations. For the first time in history, three of the 10 movies nominated for best picture — Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall,” Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” and Celine Song’s “Past Lives” — were directed by a female auteur, the most recognized in the Academy Awards’ 96-year history. The other best picture nominees are: “American Fiction,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Maestro,” “Oppehneimer,” “The Holdovers,” “Poor Things,” and “The Zone of Interest.” Before this year’s best picture nominees, 591 movies were nominated by the Academy.

Valerie Wu Intern Lily Gladstone has become the first Native American woman to be nominated for best actress at the Academy Awards. Gladstone was recognized for her role as Osage woman and historical figure Mollie Burkhart in Martin Scorsese’s epic “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Gladstone’s nomination comes four years after Yalitza Aparicio, who is Indigenous Mexican, received a best actress nomination at the 2019 Oscars. Aparicio starred in Alfonso Cuarón’s 2018 film “Roma” as housekeeper Cleodegaria “Cleo” Gutiérrez.

Great news: Greta Gerwig‘s film based on the iconic Mattel doll leads the 14th annual Guild of Music Supervisors Awards nominations with three nods – including best song for both Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” and Ryan Gosling’s “I’m Just Ken.” “Barbie’s” third nomination was in best music supervision for a film budgeted over $25 million. The category recognized the work of music supervisor George Drakoulias, songwriters Eilish and Finneas and Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt who penned “I’m Just Ken.” Other film contenders are the music supervisors from “Maestro,” “Saltburn,” “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” “Past Lives,” “Wonka,” “Air” among others.

The Producers Guild’s top career honor takes on some added significance this year. Two-time Emmy-nominatedproducer Gail Berman is set to receive the group’s 2024 Norman Lear Achievement Award.

Diego Ramos Bechara editor Veteran TV and film producer Gail Berman has been tapped to receive the Norman Lear Achievement Award at 2024 Producers Guild Awards ceremony next month. Berman, whose most recent hits include Netflix’s “Wednesday” and 2022’s “Elvis,” will be feted at the 25th annual Producers Guild Awards on Feb. 25.

Among the selected are “American Fiction,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Oppenheimer” and “Poor Things,” all top-tier contenders for Oscar attention.

Clayton Davis Senior Awards Editor Nominations for the 2024 Producers Guild of America Awards have been announced with the surprise of two international titles — Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall” and Jonathan Glazer’s “The Zone of Interest” — the first time two international titles have been nominated by the guild. The lineup includes many of the Oscars‘ usual suspects as voting for nominations is underway.

The African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) reveals its list of 2024 Special Achievement Honorees which includes Killers of the Flower Moon, Jamie Foxx and Datari Turner at Foxxhill productions, Fatima Robinson, head choreographer on The Color Purple 2024, and others were chosen for their contributions to the entertainment industry. These honorees will be celebrated at the organization’s 7th Annual AAFCA Special Achievement Awards luncheon, taking place on Sunday, March 3rd in the Centennial Room at the Los Angeles Athletic Club in downtown Los Angeles.

Greta Gerwig and Christopher Nolan, the filmmakers behind last summer’s blockbusters “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” are among the best feature film director nominees at the 76th annual DGA Awards. The Directors Guild of America nominated five directors in total, including Martin Scorsese for “Killers of the Flower Moon,” Yorgos Lanthimos for “Poor Things” and Alexander Payne for “The Holdovers.” “In a year full of so many extraordinary films, DGA members have nominated an incredible group of gifted storytellers,” Directors Guild of America president Lesli Linka Glatter said in a statement.
