Princess Diana’s tragic brother remembered as family pay touching tribute

Princess Diana’s family has shared a moving tribute to her brother John, who tragically died shortly after birth. Charles Spencer, Diana’s younger brother and the ninth Earl Spencer, shared a touching post on Instagram of a gravestone restoration commemorating John’s short life.The first of the two images in the post shows the grave of John, who was born and died on 12 January 1960, in disrepair. An engraving of the Spencer coat of arms can be seen on the worn-out grave where the writing is barely legible.
But a second image reveals a restored tombstone offering a loving tribute to John’s life. The Instagram post on Charles's account was accompanied with the words: “Looking as it should, now… I never knew my older brother, John, and live 100 miles from his grave - but, seeing it last summer, realised serious action was required. “Thank you, BB, for making it look as it should.” The post has more than six thousand likes and hundreds of comments from followers paying their respects to John.
Many commenters shared that they never knew the family suffered such a tragedy to a child so young. Diana had three other siblings, her sisters Sarah and Jane who were born in 1955 and 1957, and her brother Charles who was born in 1964. She grew up at Park House in Sandringham but following her parent’s divorce, she lived with her mum Frances Roche in London.
Her father, who was also named John Spencer, is a member of the line of the Earls of Spencer dating back to the 18th century. The wedding of Diana and Prince Charles in 1981 was a global event and watched by more than 700 million people around the world on television.
