Prince William will 'shield' Kate Middleton as she 'recuperates' after surgery, a former royal press secretary has claimed. On 17 January, Kensington Palace announced that Kate, 42, had been admitted to hospital for "planned abdominal surgery" and will not return to public duties until after Easter as she is advised to take 10 to 14 weeks to recover. Almost two weeks later, it was announced that the Princess of Wales had returned to her home in Windsor "to continue her recovery from surgery" and she's said to be "on the mend".
Prince William, 41, has stepped back from Royal duties as he takes care of his wife, Kate, and their three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, however, he made his first public appearance since Kate's hospital admission on Wednesday, 7 February, at the London Air Ambulance charity gala dinner. Whilst at the event, The Prince of Wales said: "I'd like to take this opportunity to say thank you, also, for the kind messages of support for Catherine and for my father, especially in recent days. It means a great deal to us all." It is expected that Prince William will be stepping up his Royal duties as his father, King Charles, gets treatment for an unspecified cancer.
But former press secretary to Queen Elizabeth II, Ailsa Anderson, said Prince William will "shield" his wife from the fallout as she recovers. Alisa described the first in line to the throne as a "modern monarch in waiting" and will step up "in the way he wants to". Speaking on GB News' The Camilla Tominey Show, Ailsa said: "I think William will try and shield her from as much of that pressure as possible.
