From the moment he was born, almost every element of Prince George's life has been laid out before him. And, just like many future monarchs before him, George has had to attend official family events from quite a young age.
As is expected with flocks of cameras and cheering crowds, these appearances can be daunting for any youngster. Even though he will quickly become accustomed to what is involved in these engagements, a body language expert previously noted one special move Prince William made for his eldest son.
During the Thanksgiving Service for Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh at Westminster Abbey in March 2022, the royals chatted with other guests and George, who was eight at the time, seemed a bit uneasy. Body language expert Nick Davies noticed the moment, as Prince William was talking to a military representative.
George was spotted "clutching his hand" when he first walked into the Abbey looking brave. The expert told the Daily Star: "George appears more confident looking forward, staffing upright[...] Until he entered the Church doors when he takes a deep breath quickly, gulps and licks his dry lips which is caused by pre-emptive anxiety, but he maintains good eye contact and once he is spoken to by one of the clergymen he breaks into a broad smile showing his confidence.
"However, once his father talks to the Navy gentlemen with the gold braiding, George's mouth tightens to the left and he rubs the bottom of his jacket with his right fingers, showing he feels awkward and is seeking comfort. William naturally recognises this putting his hand on George's shoulder." Despite feeling a bit nervous during the service, Prince George carried off a key role in his grandfather's Coronation ceremony at Westminster
