Police in a suburb of Portland, Ore., declared a riot Thursday night after around 100 protesters smashed windows and sprayed graffiti in a downtown business area. The unrest in Tigard, a city of about 48,000 residents, just southwest of Portland, came in response to officers having fatally shot a 26-year-old domestic violence suspect named Jacob Ryan McDuff, according to reports.

While the nation was still reeling from the raid on the nation’s Capitol on Wednesday, a group of protesters roamed through downtown Portland where they damaged property and smashed a window at the county courthouse before police broke it up. The protesters gathered in Chapman Square Park around 9:15 p.m.

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler was accosted by protesters, accused of punching him Wednesday night while he was dining out. Conservative journalist Andy Ngo posted a video of the tense encounter on Twitter.

Protesters took to the streets of Portland on Tuesday following news of a Wisconsin prosecutor's decision not to press charges against a White police officer accused of shooting Jacob Blake over the summer.

The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) said Monday that a cleaning crew's mistake likely led to the escape of an attempted murder suspect who is accused of ramming a police officer in the city last month.  The suspect, David Dahlen, 24, was arrested on Saturday and transported to Central Precinct where he was placed in a holding cell in the Detectives Division.
