Detectives have been given more time to question Constance Marten and Mark Gordon as the remains of a baby were found close to the scene of their arrest.
The pair were arrested on suspicion of child neglect in Brighton on Monday after being missing for more than seven weeks. They were initially held on suspicion of child neglect before being further arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter the following day.
Police said earlier today that they were seeking a 36 hour-extension to their detention. And they tonight confirmed that the request had been granted by Brighton Magistrates court.

They confirmed the development as they announced the 'heartbreaking' news that the remains of a baby had been found in an area of woodland close to where the pair were arrested.
After a car belonging to Marten, 35, and Gordon, 48, was found on fire abandoned next to the M61 in Bolton on January 5, police began a lengthy search for the couple.
Inquiries revealed Marten, who comes from an aristocratic family with royal connections, had given birth recently – possibly one or two days before the incident – and had not been assessed by medical professionals.
The pair had been avoiding police for several weeks and were detained by officers on Stanmer Villas in the city, but the child was not with them – sparking a widespread search spanning 90 square miles of Sussex.
Helicopters, sniffer dogs, drones and thermal imaging cameras were all deployed during the two-day operation. As the investigation continued, police became more concerned the child had come to “serious harm."
