Asking or being asked to swap seats when onboard a flight can be an awkward experience, especially since you have no idea what their response or reasoning will be.
The polite thing to do is ask someone nicely if they wouldn't mind switching, but be prepared for them to say no. The same goes if you've been asked to swap - hear them out and consider their reasons why.
However, one woman was left baffled when she was asked by another plane passenger to move her child out of their own seat and on to her lap so that she could sit. And when she refused, the other woman kicked off instead of being gracious about it.
The Mirror reports that the woman and her toddler were happily sitting aboard the plane waiting for takeoff when another passenger approached them.
After posting her experience on Reddit, she has received an onslaught of support from users - most of whom believed she reacted in the right way.
The anonymous mother explained that a woman believed to be in her 50s or 60s asked her if the little one could sit on her lap so she could take his seat. "I just said 'no sorry he’s happy where he is'," the post reads. "She got mad and then just stood around looking mad and sighing until a man gave her his seat."
At the time of writing, the post has garnered a staggering 2,000 comments, with many fellow Reddit users applauding the mother for not moving her child.
"Why target the two-year-old and his parents? Flying is stressful with kids," one person wrote. "She could have asked someone else [...] who likely would have given up their seat and not been as affected."
